I have been a strong fan of the FIFA Soccer EA series for quite sometime...Been through the 2003, 2005,2006 versions and impressed with the evolution between versions. For me, FIFA Soccer from EA has been always the choice to go for when looking at any soccer game, the main reason being that it did bring for a long time a fantastic selection of leagues with authenticity ranging from team rosters to detailed replicas of the real stadiums to event chanting specific to each team....How I enjoyed watching my favorite Portuguese team (Benfica if you want to know) and hear the crowd shout *in Portuguese* "passa!" ("pass it!"). Only complaint there is that the game fans were too polite for authenticity :-) :-) :-). and then I got my 360....and little time afterwards got FIFA 07 for the XBox 360...and I could not believe what I was seeing...This has been, I believe, a half-baked effort from EA...enough to make me run away from the series for the time to come. Some nasty "features" of the XBox 360 version:
- Remember the ~27 leagues with all the detail ? For the 360 version this has been pruned down to 6 leagues...I'm pretty much missing the leagues I was looking forward to...other game versions (e.g. PC, PlayStation) do have them (!)....Is EA planning to sell the extra leagues through Marketplace maybe ? Shame on them if that is the case...This should be an add-on since the existence of all these leagues has been a major selling point of the series (otherwise you might as well go for Winning Eleven with the much better game flow).
- The new manager mode is a disappointment to me. While previously you got a flavor of RPG with your new manager starting from the bottom and working his way up by getting contracts according to past/present performances, you now get started up at whatever team you like loosing a bit of that interaction. Admittedly the fact that I did not get to with my favorite leagues ruined it a bit for me...but still it felt to my like a poor version of the cool 2006 version.
I gave it up right there and handed back my game for something better...Complaints on the net are abundant...for the reasons above and more...It does feel like a clumsily rushed to the market game and one that I would recommend anyone to avoid without trying first...
